In 2009, Suzuki tried to revamp the SV650 and subsequently named it the SFV650 Gladius but the sales never were up to par with the original SV650 models. The newly re-designed SV650 has a huge list of upgrades including the new trellis-styled frame similar to the Ducati Monsters. It also comes in a Non-ABS and ABS model ($500 Upgrade). First test rides have claimed that the ABS model produces much more bite then the Non-ABS for the front brakes.
Some of the best upgrades though are said to be in the engine. The engine on the new SV650 is a 654cc liquid cooled, dohc, 8 valve 90 degree V-Twin. Lots of new internal upgrades like resin coated piston skirts and new ring design for minimum resistance. Suzuki has also re-designed the airbox so that the new 39mm dual carbs and velocity stacks are in a staggered pattern which is said to increase midrange.
All in all, the 2017 Suzuki SV650 seems to be a nice upgrade from the SVF650 Gladius and previous SV650's. We can't wait to get a test ride on one soon and see it it lives up to its predecessor in the fun department.
